RECENT SUCCESSES FOR OUR CLIENTS

FAIR WORK WEEK - 2017

Oregon recently became the first state in the nation to require predictable scheduling for on-call employees. In short, the Fair Work Week Act means people in these jobs can actually have a life for themselves and their families outside of their job. It’s better for them, and it’s better for Oregon.

How did this ground-breaking new law make it through the Oregon Legislature and to the Governor’s desk? In part through the exceptionally skillful work of the Prospect lobbying team: Michael Selvaggio and Thomas Mosher.

ELLIOT STATE FOREST - 2017

Oregon is a state that prides itself for its pristine lands and commitment to caring for them. But in 2016, The State Land Board found itself in a quandary. A state mandate was in place requiring state lands to maximize revenue for schools, which could conflict with conservation strategies. With some stakeholders threatening to sue the State Land Board if a sale didn’t go through, the state explored selling the forest to a timber company. But environmental, public lands, and sportsmen advocates stood ready to fight against the sale.

Prospect began meeting with stakeholders and the Governor’s office to help craft a solution and save the forest. They successfully lobbied the Legislature to transfer $100 million into the Common School Fund to buy out the ecologically-sensitive areas of the forest and retain the rest.

Thanks to Prospect’s work, the Elliott State Forest will remain in public ownership.
